Diagnostic Services

Radiography

New Haven Pet Hospital X-ray

Radiographs (x-rays) are useful in diagnosing many common medical problems. X-rays provide an inside snapshot of your pet's body and organs and can aid in the diagnosis of a variety of problems, from orthopedic issues such as arthritis, hip and shoulder dislocations and fractures to the detection of bladder stones, some tumors, foreign bodies and pneumonia. X-rays are also used to perform pregnancy checks after the 45th day of gestation.

Ultrasound

New Haven Pet Hospital Ultrasound

Ultrasound is an important, non-invasive tool used for diagnosing medical problems in your pet. An ultrasound provides us with a real-time "movie" of what is happening inside your pet's body. Ultrasounds are especially useful in detecting abdominal growths, organ abnormalities and heart problems. In addition, ultrasound is used to perform pregnancy checks and allows for more efficient examination of the bladder and other internal organs.

New Haven Pet Hospital is equipped with the latest veterinary ultrasound technology. Because ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure, anesthesia is generally not required and pets can usually go home immediately afterward, resulting in a stress-free, comfortable visit for both your pet and you.

Diagnostic Laboratory

A pet that appears healthy can often be hiding symptoms of disease. Blood testing helps your veterinarian learn things about your pet's health that cannot be seen during a routine physical examination. We are equipped with sophisticated instruments that allow us to measure many laboratory values. As a compliment to our regular laboratory services, our in-house diagnostic capabilities allow us to get results pre-surgically, or in an emergency, within minutes.

Our extensive laboratory services provide information that is critical to the sick or injured pet. We have access, both in-house and at our centralized reference laboratory, to extensive diagnostic testing, allowing your pet to receive a rapid diagnosis and appropriate treatment in a timely manner. Our laboratory is capable of processing numerous blood tests, including chemistry profiles, blood glucose and complete blood counts (CBC). We also process pre-anesthetic blood profiles, which are recommended before your pet undergoes any anesthetic procedure.
